From Childhood Tragedy to the Global Stage: The Story Behind the Passion
Tony Duarte doesn’t just teach dance mechanics—he teaches from a deep, firsthand understanding of how dancing can completely heal and transform a life.
Born in Nicaragua, Tony’s childhood was shattered at just 11 years old by the devastating loss of his father. Paralyzed by grief and overwhelming shyness, he became a quiet loner. In an effort to help him heal, his mother encouraged him to try activities to connect with other children. While baseball felt discouraging due to harsh coaching, Tony found his true escape standing on the sidelines of his sister’s dance classes, quietly following along with the rhythm.
One day, the dance instructor saw his potential and invited him to join. Within just six months, that shy young boy found absolute freedom, stepping onto the stage as part of the National Folklore group of Nicaragua. Dancing didn’t just give him rhythm; it gave him an unshakable sense of security, self-confidence, and mental well-being.
